A story close to home

In 2019, after Charles N. Ikome experienced a frustrating car breakdown, he realized there was a gap between car owners and auto service providers. One Saturday, when his car broke down on the highway to Montreal, Quebec, from Burlington, Ontario, Charles called for services. He  was then left stranded on the side of the road for almost two hours before a tow truck arrived. 

 

Being unfamiliar with the auto services in the area, he turned to Google search for the closest mechanic from his location. His car was dropped off while he was left to wait for another hour and a half before his car was assessed. Having scheduled appointment times would have been a significant help in this situation. After the assessment, Charles’ frustration grew more when he found out his car could not be fixed at that mechanic shop. It turned out that it was more of an electrical/technological problem. Charles had to book another tow service to a shop forty-five minutes away.

His experience was filled with frustration, lost hours, and anger. He endured very long wait times on customer service lines with unreliable service providers and waited over three hours for a tow truck to arrive in both instances. He knew that the danger and confusion surrounding sudden auto breakdowns was avoidable. With a professional, reliable and convenient system, the reality of roadside assistance can change completely.He started researching for ideas and saw this as an opportunity to make the process easier for drivers. Those who face the same issues in the city, during busy hours, and on unfamiliar roads need a solution.

Charles' idea resonated with his co-founders Yvonne B. Ojong and Charlotte I. Mojoko, who came together to develop his vision of bridging the gap between car owners and service providers. The unique advantage that My Auto Bridge has lies in what bringing together three, young entrepreneurs from different professional backgrounds can inspire. Sharing similar unpleasant experiences with car breakdowns and the stress of spending time on the phone to book a service, towing delays and repair difficulties. The team brings in a wealth of knowledge and creative ideas to provide real solutions to the existing problems.
